Barkbusters VPS Handguard

We fitted the Barkbusters to our KLR650 test bike. The guards fitted straight on to the standard bars but the cables for the choke had to be rerouted out of the cable guide which is a loop welded to the bars. The mounting kit also needs to be shortened a few mm as the handguard touches the KLR's fairing at full lock. In the event of a fall the impact could cause damage to the fairing.

We rode 1,200 kms with the VPS guards on over three days. The first day was mostly through driving rain and I'm talking bucketing down with the remaining days cold overcast through the mountains and hot and sunny on the last day. Compared to the standard handguards the Barkbuster VPS offers much better protection in the event of dropping the bike and protecting the levers. However, it lacked the wind protection that's offered by the standard Kawasaki handguards even with the deflector set in its highest position. Recommended if your bike has no handguards (eg XT660R) or if you're planning more off-road than not. One of the best on the market.
