Our annual TZ and ORE supported Ride to the Snowy Ride got underway and Day One was an absolute cracker. Our group of 17 riders were blessed with absolutely perfect conditions as we headed west from Mittagong to Taralga via Wombeyan Caves. The ride is in support of the annual Steven Walter charity ride that raises funds for research into childhood cancer.
Brad on his V-Strom immediately had a technical issue in the MacDonalds carpark but the problem was quickly fixed with a paper clip by our expert sweep Clive MacGyver. Clive looked a little nervous at the start as there were a total of four V-Stroms on the ride and only brought one paper clip.
The group were supplied with trip notes and were able to ride at their own pace. Despite the gentle parking of a V-Strom in a road side ditch, the day was uneventful until the groups arrival in Tumut. More about that later.
After a morning tea stop at Taralga, which revealed that the majority of the group love their cake and coffee, we headed off to Crookwell and then on to Yass for lunch. Special mention here for brothers Scott and Nathan that dined on prawns and oysters at the local petrol station carpark.
After an incident free ride by all participants the main group rolled into Tumut to find Russ at the local servo with his WR250R on it's side and Russ rolling around on his back like a stranded river turtle. Despite coming up with several legitimate excuses none were accepted by the growing crowd that gathered around the petrol pump.
Day Two saw the group heading out from Tumut over the Brindabellas. Once again Brad on his V-Strom was in strife with a hole in his tyre sidewall and no amount of paper clips would help him here. After struggling with the levers the wall of the tyre was patched and he was on his way.
After crossing the Brindbellas the group turned south through Tharwa to Namadgi National Park, across Shannons Flat down to Cooma for lunch. The roads were fairly crowded at Cooma so it was great to escape the swelling numbers of road bikes with the final off-road section that took the group south to Dalgety emerging back on the main highway at Berridale.
The majority of riders regrouped at the pub at Thredbo and a few attended Big Als Barbeque that featured guest speakers Troy Herfoss and Ben Grabham.
Thanks to all the riders who joined us on the ride, and a special thanks to Clive and Heath from MotorcycleBiz for sweeping the pack on their V-Stroms.
Thanks to Dave Morgan and Andrew Clubb for images.
